How much does it cost to import a car from America to Ghana?

The delivered cost is the price of the vehicle plus ocean freight, marine insurance, import duty, VAT, NHIL, GETFund and other levies, terminal handling, clearing and registration. On a typical mid-size SUV the charges beyond the car itself commonly add well over half the vehicle price again. Can I import a car older than ten years into Ghana?

Accepted Answer

Ghana does not permit the import of vehicles more than ten years old. This is an eligibility rule rather than a surcharge: an older vehicle cannot be imported at any price. Our calculator refuses to quote a vehicle outside the limit instead of producing a figure for a shipment that cannot lawfully take place.

What is CIF, and why is duty not calculated on what I paid?

CIF is Cost, Insurance and Freight — the vehicle price plus marine insurance plus ocean freight. Duty and most levies are assessed on CIF rather than the purchase price alone. Auction buyer fees and US inland transport sit outside CIF. Customs may also assess against its own benchmark valuation where that exceeds the price paid.

Can you guarantee the final price?

No, and you should be careful of anyone who does. Duty, VAT and statutory levies are fixed by law and we state them exactly. The auction hammer price and ocean freight can move, and we mark those lines as estimates rather than presenting them with the same confidence. If a vehicle exceeds the ceiling you authorised, we stop bidding and there is no charge.

Do you buy salvage or damaged vehicles?

Yes, where a client wants one — they can represent good value. But a salvage or rebuilt title changes what the vehicle is worth, what it costs to clear and whether it can be registered. We show the title brand and primary damage on every vehicle we present, before you approve it.

Question 6

Can you help if I am buying a car inside the United States?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We source and purchase on your behalf from auctions and dealers, check the title and damage history, and arrange delivery and registration in your state. There is no duty or shipping on a domestic purchase, and the calculator has a separate mode for it.
